Deciding to Terminate a Pregnancy

You may decide not to continue with your pregnancy or feel unsure about your decision.  There are many things to think about, but you are not alone there are lots of support organisations that offer guidance and impartial help.

The British Pregnancy Advisory service provides information about termination and you can self-refer to access their services.

Termination for Fetal Abnormality

You may be offered a termination to end your pregnancy if screening tests show your baby has a complex abnormality. Some people choose to continue with their pregnancy and start to prepare for the needs of their baby, while others decide that termination is the best option for them.

Please don’t feel this decision has to be made alone. Your midwife will offer support and suggest suitable organisations that can help you guide you through this challenging time.

The charity Antenatal Results and Choices offers information and support for people diagnosed after antenatal screening. Its helpline is answered by trained staff:
